Funded by The U.S. National Institutes of Health * Follows the American Diabetes Association Standards of Care * Awarded a "Favorably Reviewed" status by the American Association of Diabetes Educators * Covers four basic areas of diabetes self-management, including blood glucose monitoring, insulin injections, dietary management, and exercise * Children learn about the skills necessary for self-care and increases level of diabetes knowledge * Complements one-on-one diabetes education and helps educators use their time more efficiently and effectively * Combines proven educational strategies for developing the skills necessary for self-management * Diabetes dictionary and a content-sensitive feature provide quick access to information * Objectives include: Understand the basic areas of diabetes self-care, the steps involved and the reasons for testing blood glucose levels * Recognize symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia and be aware of corrective steps and the effects of physical activity on blood glucose levels * Learn the proper steps in preparing and giving an insulin injection * Recognize the interrelationship among blood glucose level, insulin, food, nutrition and physical activity * Top 20 at the 2004, 2nd Annual National Steps to a Healthier US Summit * Hybrid CD-Rom * Grades 2-8
